It was a lovely morning travelling through the countryside on our way to see BBC Radio Lancashire who had been on location at the village green in Mawdesley. Think green preservation society.
We arrived early as we had been scheduled to play live on Sally Naiden and Brett Davison morning show. Upon arrival at the bowling green a match had commenced and inside the building singing “You’ve got the power in you” were St Marys primary school based in Leyland. They sounded beautiful and did a very good job indeed.
We had been introduced to the crew and Chris the sound engineer who briefed us on the running order of the mornings program. We got offered a cup of coffee and couldn’t help noticing some culinary delights on offer. They even had a local chocolate company called “Chocolate Magic” offering some very tasty samples of their own chocolate to try. It was divine. I recommend visiting their site and ordering some chocolate, its the best I’ve tasted. Its fantastic seeing small local businesses producing such high quality products.
As we approached mid morning it was time for us to setup. Usually we just have a vocal mic however this time things were done properly. We had two high quality vocal mics and a proper drum mic as well as a great sounding guitar from Chris who had been working behind the desk. A very talented man indeed. It was probably the best sound we’d ever had for a live session on the radio and he really knew how to shape the sound for us, thanks a lot.
After the news Sally and Brett introduced us and we played our first song “Tired Eyes” surrounded by the team and bowlers who had come in for a drink. We received a rapturous applause and had been well received by the lovely morning team. We had also been invited by for a special session at some point in the near future on Radio Lancashire for a special interview and also had a gig enquiry from the local village green who host an event once a year. We look forward to that.
After some outdoor interviews had taken place with the bowlers we played some more live music. It’s strange how nerves can get to you even though there aren’t many people watching you. A guitar error in the beginning of our next song meant we had to stop and start again and it always feels like a ten minute silence when in fact it’s only a second or so and more importantly nobody actually notices. Having pulled through we carried on and had a small interview on what it was like to live life in a van. Sally & Brett were fantastic and complete naturals in interview techniques
We would like to thank Sally, Brett, Chris, Chocolate Magic, Mawdsley Bowling team and the rest of the BBC Radio Lancashire team for their support and of course Suzie at Blyth Emporium for recommending us.
