The La Cantina Bar in Ormskirk, Lancashire has to be said is a hidden gem. The La Cantina Bar is just outside the town centre of Ormskirk, Lancashire. Nestled in a small business centre.
The La Cantina Bar is known for its tapas, comedy nights and culinary delights. Not to be confused with the Cantina Bar on Star Wars, luckily for Andy (his nickname is Droid) droids were able to enter.
A relatively unknown place that features a low ceiling and comfy plush seats. It is Ormskirk’s best kept secret. People who have been recommended by other folks tell you that you must go there.
At the La Cantina bar you will enjoy the quiet ambiance (with the exception of tonight). Away from the rest of the local pubs and the hustle and bustle.
Our first encounter with the La Cantina came through a booking for live music for a private birthday celebration party. Upon entering the La Cantina Bar the first thing you notice is; if your over 6 ft tall is how low the ceiling is. Therefore requiring you to learn how to fit in without looking like you have a dislocated neck. Before we setup we were joking how if we cut a hole in the ceiling Andy may blend in a little better.
We setup our gear and before long met the party girl and her family. They had organised a great display of Tapas food for tonight’s buffet. It was our job to give the party girl and her family a great night. With that in mind we took to the stage (well the corner of the room) and began to play.
The bar is good for 40 or so people and it was fair to say it was rammed after everyone had arrived. The crowd were up for a party and were very enthusiastic with the percussion instruments we had provided. It was a great gig in a great bar and perfect for the guests.
Opting for our Pop Up Acoustic setup meant we were able to squeeze into a corner. Due to the low ceiling it helped shape the sound just right. We played an hour or so and then decided to have a break. We were invited to try some of the buffet so had a few nibbles and bites.
Then it was back on stage to finish the night off in style. Finally with everyone in good spirits we played the last few upbeat numbers to end the night. Finishing on a crescendo of good feeling. More, more, more was shouted (always a good sign) so of course we did a couple more numbers (who can resist an encore).
Most of all huge thanks goes out to Simon for arranging a wonderful party and of course to the party girl herself Sara. Thank you for making us feel so welcome, You have a lovely family and a great bunch of crazy friends.
