Interview at BBC Radio Norfolk with Stephen Bumfrey

Setting out today from Grantham we headed for Norfolk, getting there was a bit tricky as half of the A11 was closed off and the Sat Nav didn’t recognise the new road layout, so we were travelling through the woods according to the Sat Nav. After a couple of U turns and getting lost a few times we finally arrived in Norwich and parked up in a multi storey. The multi storey had a height restriction and since we don’t know the exact height of the van its kind of hit and miss everytime. This one was pretty close, as I hung my head out of the window, Andy drove in slowly, we were in. It still makes you nervous though, you kind of pull an eek face as your driving around thinking surely the van roof is going to hit, but thankfully it didn’t.

We unloaded the gear and headed towards the studio.BBC Norfolk is located in a relatively new building which is part of a complex called “The Forum”. Upon arrival we reported to reception and were then taken up to the studio to meet the presenter Stephen Bumfrey. We also met his wonderful and full of life producer Thordis who is as Stephen describes “as mad as a hatter”. Thordis made us feel very welcome and we were offered a cuppa until it was our turn to go into the studio. Stephen was interviewing another musician called Matt Watson who was performing a live song and talking about his new album.

After a few minutes we were called into the studio and were introduced to Stephen, what a lovely guy he is. Stephen was really down to earth and apparently used to play the guitar himself. Over the next 20 minutes we performed 2 original songs and discussed our “Sing for Your Supper” challenge for Trussell Trust food banks.

It was great to be able to talk about the food bank project we are involved with and hopefully it will encourage people to donate, even if its only a pound. If everyone donated a pound we would reach our target in no time as every little helps. Talking about the situations that can lead people to require a food bank is always helpful it can do away with any myths about food banks and help to raise awareness for any listeners that are in financial distress that may actually need referring themselves.

We finished the show off and thanked Stephen and Thordis for inviting us in, hopefully a few people who tuned in will see us busking in Norwich tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who tuned in and thanks to BBC Radio Norfolk and staff for allowing us to come on the show today it was great.
